This is the third and final day hike in preparation for the fourteener hike coming up later this month. Please note that this hike is open to everyone, not just those planning on going on the fourteener. We will depart from the Orchard Mesa City Market at 5:00 am and carpool or caravan to Ridgway for breakfast at the Galloping Goose Bakery & Cafe. From the Galloping Goose we will drive 5 miles on Highway 62 and then turn left on the National Forest Dallas Creek Road. Proceed 9 miles on gravel road to Blue Lakes Trailhead. This will be an all day hike so bring plenty of water, lunch, snacks, bug spray, sunscreen, hat, jacket, rain gear, and hiking poles if you have them. There are three lakes along the way, and fishing can be superb with flies or spinners. The first lake is 3.3 miles and the second approximately 1 more mile. Trailhead elevation is 8350 feet and the top elevation is 11,730 feet. We will discuss possible dinner plans after the hike. There is no charge to participate, only the costs of whatever meals (breakfast, dinner) and gas for the drive. Any questions contact Steve Allard at 970-255-0244 or gsliforce@gmail.com.
